I don't mind contradictory etymologies but I do mind when sources cite one or the other #etymology as the definitive history and meaning of the word without mentioning any of the other possible origins.
Does #frankinsense come from a French expression meaning "free incense" or "free burning" (.thoughtco.com) or does it come from the Franks trading it (folk etymology according to Wikipedia) or because "franc" means "noble" and thus implies "high quality incense" (Wikipedia)?
Argh! #petpeeve
