Whoa this is fierce, and a Roman #myth I've never heard:
the Syblline Books: King Tarquin the Elder bought them for an old woman who offered him 9 for a certain price. He refused. She destroyed 3 and offered him the remaining 6 for the same price. He refused. She destroyed 3 more and offered him the remaining 3, which he bought because he was impressed.
Apparently they are #Greek oracles about the fate of #Rome.
I can definitely use this idea in my #Verraine series...
